Itagar, April 7: Building toilets to every household is one of the major promises of Prime Minister rendra Modi and creating sustaible sanitation solutions and changing attitudes and behaviors of the people is our social responsibility under Swachh Bharat Mission, PHED Minister Bamang Felix said on Thursday. “The state government is committed to provide healthy and clean environment to live in and we will continue to work closely with the people providing quality latrines to individual household,” the minister said during a meeting with departmental officers at Pasighat in East Siang district, an official report informed here today. Felix said, SBM Sanitation is a massive mass movement that seeks to create a clean India by 2019. “The father of our tion Mahatma Gandhi always put the emphasis on swachhta for us,” he said adding, the overall objective of the mission was to provide complete sanitation solutions for all. “The mission will cover the entire state and expected to bring about a holistic transformation of the sanitation scene in both rural and urban areas. We have issued guidelines to the concerned department to help stakeholders efficiently implement the programme across the state,” he said. Concerted efforts of PHED, administration and other line departments was need of the hour, the minister added.
Felix while requesting the DC to conduct monthly meeting and update his office on regular basis further instructed the officers to implement project in letter and spirit. He informed that failure of the mission would be viewed seriously besides non-performing district. “As PMO will closely monitor all development, failure of districts may be treated as non-performing state by the union ministry. Provision of household and public toilets, solid waste magement facilities, capacity building and awareness generation are the core components of the mission,” he said. Sanitation is primarily a behavioral issue to be undertaken by people themselves for their own benefits and the role of government is only to facilitate this positive change by providing incentives and assisting people, the minister added.
