Creator of Kathanibari Ghat, Mahim Bora to turn 92

gaon, July 5: The philantrophist of Assamese literature, the poet of Ranga Jiyan and the creator of Kathanibari Ghat, Padmashri Mahim Bora will turn 92 on Monday.  Various institutions, literature lovers including Surar Panchoi Silpi Samaj and Akanir Xahitya Xabha are going to celebrate the litterateur's 92nd birth anniversary at his residence in gaon.

On the eve of his 92nd birth anniversary, the nogerian told media persons, "I have never celebrated my birthday. My parents did not celebrate it because at that time there was no such celebration in our society. But when the authors of the new generation, the readers and my well wishers enthusiastically come forward to celebrate my birthday, I cannot refuse. I feel it is a blessing."

Bora said, "My first edition of short stories mely Kathanibari Ghat was first published in 1961. Thereafter, I am in relentless service to Assamese literature. People shows eagerness to read my other writings also, such as Bahubhuji Trivuj, Edhani Mahir Hanhi, Banduli Phular Rang, Rati Phula Phul, Deha Garaka Prem and Ranga Jiyan."

Urging the new generation, the author said, "I always extend my support to the writers of the new generation. But they must be sincere. Success in literature cannot be achieved just by sailing on the wave. The writers have to exert their best to create something and only then they can achieve success."

There will be an art competition at 9-30am on Monday in the premises of Mahim Bora's house. At 3 pm there will be a programe in which the assembled literature lovers will interact with the author. Another prominent author and critique Pradip Saikia will grace the occasion. On the occasion the Hindi translation of the author's Banduli Phular Rang will be released. The book has been translated by Dr Manika Saikia.
