’Credit camp provides incentives to farmers’

SILCHAR, January 24: A credit camp cum mela organized jointly by the civil administration of Lakhipur, agriculture department and banks along with farmers of the sub–division held recently in the community hall of Pailapool came as a great incentive to the agriculturists. Explaining the objective behind such meet, Jakir Hussain Choudhury, district agriculture officer, said the priority is on development in the agrarian sector and to take the production to the optimum level.

Agriculture in general in other parts of the country has taken a leap. Sadly enough, as he said, the agriculture sector in the state of Assam has been neglected. This is due to the adoption of outdated approach and lack of modern and innovative techniques. In order to improve the unsatisfactory progress in agriculture and thereby the conditions of farmers, the state government has come forward to provide the necessary boost–up.

As a major step in this direction, Kisan Credit Card (KCC) loans are being arranged from the commercial banks and to ensure that the farmers of the state get all the facilities in respect of their agricultural development and give a new dimension to the system. SDO (Civil) of the sub–division, barun Bhattacharjee, said if the farmers face any problem in getting the loan, they should be immediately in touch with him. Besides, he is ready to help them in all ways possible.

In this meeting, KCC loan cheques worth Rs.1.6 lakh has been provided by the Gramin Vikash Bank of Pailapool to six farmers. Another loan amount of Rs.62,623 has been extended to eleven farmers by the Gramin Vikash Bank of Banskandi. Around 300 farmers were present and feedbacks from them were collected for understanding their problems. The SDO, Agriculture Department, M Singha, and ADO, Tombi Singha, hoped that the facilities and incentives extended to the farmers would be utilized in their proper manner. Rajdeep Goala, MLA of Lakhipur, expressed his satisfaction at the initiative taken to help the farmers for the development of agriculture sector. Tapan Bhattacharjee, agricultural officer of Soi, at the outset welcomed the assembly.
