Cricket development is Priority of New Committee

GUWAHATI: The newly elected committee of the Assam Cricket Association (ACA) today made it clear that the development of cricket in Assam will be their main priority. They also shared some plans to be implemented on a priority basis.

Talking to the media just after the Annual General Meeting, newly elected ACA president Romen Dutta said, “The new committee is committed to develop cricket in state. I know there is lack of proper cricket ground in Assam, and we always receive complains from the representatives of different districts in each and every meeting. We have taken the matter seriously and already decided to develop at least one ground in every affiliated district units of the Assam Cricket Association. The ground will have all modern cricket facilities. We feel if we can provide good grounds to our district units it will help them produce quality cricketers in the coming days.”

Talking on the sideline of the celebrations organized by the supporters of newly elected committee, the secretary Devajit Saikia too echoed similar voice like his president. “All of us want to see that cricketers of Assam make good progress at national as well as international levels. Our focus on those areas which are essential for the development of cricket in the state,” he said.

Elaborating their plans, Saikia said, “Initially we want to prepare a roadmap for the next three years. It will be done with advice from experts in this field. We have decided to invite around 20 experts including former cricketers, coaches and umpires at a meeting and will seek advice as well as suggestions from them. Later the plan will be chalked out on the basis of their advice and suggestions.”

New secretary added: “Our cricketers need more exposure in competitive cricket, and keeping that in mind we have planned to introduce a new tournament. Inter-District Cricket Tournaments would also be streamlined. On the other hand, the performance of our batsmen is not up to the mark, and we will give special attention to this area. We have also planned to invite three mental conditioning coaches to train our players.”
