Crowds throng Eid markets in Barak Valley

SILCHAR, June 24: Like Durga Puja, preparation for celebration of Eid-ul-Fitr, which may fall either on Sunday or on Monday according to the visibility of the Moon, is going on full swing in Barak Valley. A large number of faithful Muslims are seen making a beeline for Goldighi Municipal Mall, Big Bazaar, Vishal Market, Metro Barzar, Citi Mart and other destitions of this town. They are busy buying clothes, shoes and other accessories to gift their near and dear ones. Eid-ul-Fitr marks the end of Ramzan days of fasting that runs for a month. Devotees pray at various mosques on that day. Muslims across Barak Valley have geared up to celebrate their grand festival, Eid–ul–Fitr. The night view of these bazaars look beautiful as it remains well lit and magnificently decorated. The well decorated and well lit mosques, both in the urban and rural areas of the valley, speak volumes about the preparations. Different areas of the town and its neighbouring places have been illumited brightly and the street, decorated with banners and flags, wears a festive look. It should be mentioned here that Eid-ul-Fitr is one of the two biggest Muslim holidays of the year, the other being, Eid–ul–Zuha. A large number of shops have been crowded with people deeply engrossed in shopping. They buy clothes, shoes, cards, orments among others. Fatak Bazaar which is the main trade centre of Silchar is expected to do good business, with their sales skyrocketing. Muslims attach emotions and special feelings with the festival. They dress up in new clothes, exchange gifts, sweetmeats and other edibles, embrace and hug each other. Eid-ul-Fitr prayers will be held at Itakhola Idgah, College Road Idgha among others. Being one of the grandest festivals in the life of Muslim people, it comes to no surprise that they are seen thronging the market and also buying edibles. Eid shopping has gained momentum. There is a lot of hustle and bustle at Central Road which is the main trade centre of the town. Women are showing great enthusiasm in shopping. People of all age groups are seen busy shopping in bazaars. People have been frequenting market places for the last few days for Eid shopping. The enthusiasm of the women and children deserves special mention.
