CRPF constable sent to jail for posting 'anti-government' messages

JORHAT, Oct 17: A CRPF constable Pankaj Mishra of 119 CRPF battalion was sent to jail after being produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate court for posting anti-government messages on social media, said Pradip Kalita, the OC of Jorhat Sadar Police Station on Monday.

The CRPF constable was booked under section 294,354,506 of the IPC and section 67 of the IT Act of Jorhat PS case no. 2238/17. Constable Mishra was posted to Jorhat in May this year. Before that he was posted in Delhi under battalion 221 of CRPF. He hails from Ara district of Bihar. He had uploaded several video clips on social media criticizing the Union Government and top brass of the CRPF.

Earlier, constable Mishra was warned several times by CRPF authority for violating service rules and using abusive words against Prime Minister rendra Modi and Union Home Minister Rajth Singh since April 2017. Interl inquiry was held many times and repeatedly he was found guilty of gross violation of service norms, for which the Commandant of the unit lodged an FIR in Jorhat Police Station on Saturday, following which he was set to Jorhat Central Jail on Monday.
