According to the police, on Monday morning the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawan allegedly committed suicide by shooting himself at the Jaimati Pathar camp in Sonitpur district.
Reportedly, the jawan has been identified as Digambar Madhab (40), who hailed from Mumbai.
According to police, the actual reason behind the suicide is not yet clear and a thorough investigation regarding the incident has been initiated.
Meanwhile, the body of the dead CRPF Jawan was sent for post-mortem in Tezpur Kanaklata Civil hospital and after that handed over to his bereaved family in order to complete his last rites.
There has been a sharp rise in cases of suicide amid the law enforcement forces as earlier this week, the body of an Assam Police Jawan riddled with bullets was recovered from the security barrack attached to the official residence of Chief Minister at Kharghuli in Guwahati.
An inquiry has been initiated by the Assam CM Sarbananda Sonowal on this regard.
Reportedly, the deceased Assam Police Jawan has been identified as Lance Naik Sukleswar Kathar and had six bullets hit in the body, which were fired from his service weapon, an AK 47 rifle. It is being assumed to be a case of suicide until now as per the initial investigation.
Talking to media, PC Saloi, the Guwahati Police Commissioner said it is particularly very difficult to comment at this moment as to whether it is a suicide or some other people are involved in killing Kathar.
Meanwhile, the body was handed over to the family members for cremation after police had conducted a thorough post-mortem on Monday.
It may be mentioned that the Kathar was recently posed into the CM security cell duty. The department is yet to come to any conclusion.
