Cry for steps to mitigate traffic congestion at Lichubari

From a Correspondent

JORHAT, Jan 18: Perhaps the Jorhat district administration, especially the Traffic department of the district police force, is waiting for an accident to happen before the authorities will actually take steps to clear the traffic srl near Don Bosco School in Lichubari, Jorhat.

Deputy Commissioner Virendra Mittal had taken a step with former SP Amanjeet Kaur and a traffic policeman was deputed in the Lichubari intersection but as soon as the new SP took over, the deputation of the traffic police once again went off track, as could be seen on Wednesday, Army trucks of the nearby HQ 41 Sub Area, Jorhat Police riot van, a two-vehicular convoy of the Tea Board office in Jorhat, besides the haphazard parking of vehicles, bikes and school vans, almost brought the traffic to a standstill, thus exposing the young students to a high level of smog.

Talking to The Sentinel, DC Virendra Mittal said, “I had earlier taken up the matter, after a series of complaints, with the earlier SP and a traffic policeman from the traffic branch was deputed and I believe this was also told to the present SP. Let me take up the matter once again and I will see to it that the problem is solved as soon as possible.”

Parents and businessmen of the area think that all heavy vehicles, including army trucks, buses, sand-carrying dumpers and FCI trucks, should not be allowed in this route from 7 am to 8:30 am and likewise from 1 pm to 2 pm and also stringent measures should be enforced to stop criss-cross parking of vehicles, which will then make the road safe for the students of Don Bosco as well as other schools situated nearby.
