CSIR-NEIST to celebrate 74th foundation day

JORHAT, Sept 21: CSIR-North East Institute of Science and Technology, Jorhat will be celebrating the 74th foundation day of its apex body, CSIR with a three-day programme at its premise from September 24-September 26.

Established on September 26, 1942, the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) has a pan-India presence with 38 constituent laboratories spread across the country. This annual event is marked by technology awards, felicitation of the employees, award of special fellowships/scholarships to science students. This year the event bears a special significance as it marks the beginning of the platinum jubilee celebration of the largest research and development organization in the country.

As a part of the celebration, CSIR-NEIST will observe ‘Open Day’ on September 24 for the visit of students and general public. Interested students, general public may visit the institute and interact with scientists during the stipulated time. The following day a special function will be held at Dr J N Baruah auditorium at 9.30 am wherein Padmashree Prof Dr Goverdhan Mehta, FRS, president of Intertiol Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry, will grace the function as chief guest and deliver the foundation day Lecture. Dr D Ramaiah, Director, CSIR-NEIST will preside over the function wherein dignitaries, invitees, eminent persolities from in and around Jorhat district, along with CSIR-NEIST fraternity are expected to attend the programme.

On 26 September, ‘Kisan Mela’ will be held at CSIR-NEIST farm area where Atul Bora, Minister of Agriculture, Horticulture and Food Processing, Government of Assam, will be releasing two high-yielding plant varieties of citronella and lemon grass, newly developed by CSIR-NEIST.

Simultaneously at CSIR Vigyan Bhavan, New Delhi, the same will be released by the Prime Minister of India and president of CSIR, rendra Modi. The programme will start at 10 am at the CSIR-NEIST farm area. Various dignitaries and important persolities of Jorhat along with around 500 farmers/entrepreneurs of CSIR-NEIST are expected to participate in the programme.
