CSWO against extension of DGP Mehta's term

STAFF CORRESPONDENT

SHILLONG, June 29: The CSWO has strongly opposed the intention of the Government to seek extension of DGP Rajiv Mehta after his retirement.

“This reflects badly on the State as it indicates that there is no competent official to take charge of the state police chief. This cannot be encouraged as it spoils the chances of those who are to be next promoted and it also demoralizes the law enforcers. The next in line DGP should be immediately appointed,” CSWO said in a statement.

The CSWO also urged the legislators of the State to strongly oppose such move and stop contravention of law, whereby many honest government servants stand to lose and many have been affected by this unconstitutiol method adopted by the government.

The CSWO will strongly oppose such a move and will also oppose other extensions in various Departments of the Government which is against the laid down.

Service and Recruitment Rules are clearly to be adhered and violation of these means there is something going on, which could indicate either that the services of these people are still required to hide scams or some irregularity, said the organization.

All extensions should be immediately put on hold and Fince Department should not accord approval for such extensions.
