CSWO condemns rape of two JNV students

SHILLONG, Sept 30: The Civil Society Women Organization (CSWO) on Friday strongly condemns the alleged rape of two minor students by two teachers mely Yogesh Joshi, who is the In-charge and Dipjyoti Das who is the computer teacher, of the Jawaharlal Nerhu Vidyalaya (JNV), Tura, West Garo Hills.

In a statement released here, the CSWO leader said that the two 17-year old students have been enticed by the two teachers for a birthday celebration of one of the teachers Dipjyoti Das in his quarters in the School near MP Stadium, Dakopgre on September 3 last.

The CSWO alleged that the girls were given cold drinks which were spiked with intoxicants and the two took advantage of the girls and even went to the extent of seeking sexual favours’ by blackmailing and intimidating them. The organisation said that the girls later told their friends as they no longer could take the exploitation and when the students raised the issue and protested, some teachers tried to stop them from filing the FIR, but the students filed the complaint against the two teachers on September 29.

The CSWO also lauds the State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (SCPCR), who has taken swift and prompt action.

Meanwhile, the two teachers of JNV who are alleged of sexually harassing students have been remanded to five days police custody. The remanded order was issued by the district session court on Friday.

Meghalaya police produced the accused teachers before I Rymbui, chief judicial magistrate around 4:50 pm, who remanded them to police custody till October 4.
