CSWO seeks CBI inquiry

FROM A REPORTER

SHILLONG, April 17: The Civil Society Women’s Organization (CSWO) today sought a thorough probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) into the alleged violation against the implementation of four-lane Jorabat-Barapani Road Project in Ri Bhoi district. “We urged that a thorough investigation be carried out to ascertain who has given the work to the two companies – NKC Project (P) Ltd and YFC Project (P) Ltd and under what rule they were given the contract,” CSWO president Agnes Kharshiing said in a letter to the SP of CBI, Shillong on Friday.

She said that the Jorabat – Barapani road construction under taken by the Concessioire ILFS Ramkey, under NHAI, is now being executed by the NKC Project (P) Ltd and YFC Project (P) Ltd who are “unknown companies”. “It seems that the two companies have not at all tendered legally as per procedures for the road construction nor were selected under proper procedures strictly laid down which is a clear violation and corruption perpetrated by certain officials in high level,” Kharshiing alleged. The CSWO further urged the CBI to find out how many people actually died in the big landslide at Umling which took place on October 5, last year besides the mes of the car owners, who allegedly escaped the landslide. “It is also noticed that the inexperience of these road construction companies has caused loss of life and property to many and they are helped in hiding facts with help of certain senior police officials of the state,” she alleged.
