DIBRUGARH, June 19: The ten-day long cultural workshop on modern and folk music organized by the cultural department of the Sonowal Kachari Autonomous Council (SKAC) at Jajati Kalyan Bhawan from June 8 was concluded successfully on Thursday. More than 20 participants from various parts of Upper Assam took part in it. The participants were imparted musical training by noted musician Hiren Gohain , radio artist Ranjita Borua and folk musician Bhuban Gogoi.
The valedictory function of the musical workshop was attended by the Chief Executive Officer of SKAC Dandi Sonowal who in his speech admitted that several steps have been taken by the council for organizing cultural workshops for discussing and preserving the community’s rich musical heritage. Sonowal also distributed certificates among the participants. The in-charge of the Dibrugarh branch of the Cultural department, Pabitra Kumar Pegu, the Secretary of the council, Tonkeshwar Sonowal, Ghakanta Saikia who attended the valedictory function, also spoke on the occassion.
Besides performing songs of Jyotiprasad Agarwala and Kalaguru Bishnuprasad Rabha, the participants also performed modern songs, lokgeet, bongeet and Sonowal Kachari bihu at the cultural function organized to mark the occasion .
Executive member Bhakti Prasad Sonowal and Peim Thi Gohain compeered the workshop. Dipu Ranjan Makrari, Amika Bora Saikia, Ridip Hazarika , Upendra Sonowal, president of Sonowal Kachari Student’s Union Keshab Sonowal, secretary of Mahila Parishad , Jyost Sonowal also attended as guests in the event.
