Curtains down on 41st Karbi Youth Festival

Diphu, Feb 19: The five-day long  41st Karbi Youth Festival (KYF) organized under the aegis of Karbi Cultural Society (KCS), concluded at Taralangso near Diphu in Karbi Anglong on Thursday.

The enchanting Taralangso came alive to the sounds of traditiol gongs and dhols symbolizing the celebration of the 41st KYF, a major cultural carnival of Karbi community showcasing

their rich cultural heritage. A large number of artistes  from the district and different parts of

the NorthEast, clad in customary dresses performed Ritnong chingdi, Nimso Kirung, Hachakekan and Chong ke dam.

 The organizers called upon to the new generation to safeguard and uphold their rich cultural heritage which had been well preserved and carried forward by their ancestors.  The colorful dances, traditiol games and sports events and different delicacies exhibited by different tribes as well as handloom and handicraft were the main attractions of the five-day long event.

The KYF is held every year since 1974 and  is the oldest and the largest ethnic festival in the Northeast that mixes tradition with modernity and celebrates the cultural heritage of the Karbis.
