Cycle expedition flagged off in Haflong

SILCHAR/Haflong, March 14: To commemorate the 181st Raising Day of Assam Rifles, slated to be held on March 24 at Shillong, a cycle expedition was flagged off at Haflong on Monday.

The Assam Rifles Cycling expedition was flagged off in presence of Chief Executive Member, N C Hills Autonomous Council  Debojeet Thaosen, Executive Members Kulendra Daulagupu, Mahendra Kemprai, SP Dima Hasao Dr Dhanjay Parashuram Ghawat, Commandant of Assam Rifles, R.K Singh, President of JNH, Kailen Daulagupu, and many eminent persolities.

The expedition team from Impahl, Khohima, Lekhapani, Aiwzal and Agartala, comprising of Assam Rifles unit joined by the expedition team from Haflong and were headed towards Lumding for Shillong via Guwahati.

The team will spread the message of peace and harmony and convey the message of Clean India, Healthy India and Strong India.

It is learnt that the thirty ‘Friends of The Hill People’ on cycles on Sunday cleaned up the Haflong Lake and four tourist places at Old Dibarai, Upper Bagettar, Convent road and Moulhoi.

As part of this cycle expedition, 10 cyclists each from 21 Sector Assam Rifles deployed in Tripura and 23 Sector Assam Rifles deployed in Mizoram arrived in Haflong on Monday.

All the 30 cyclists first paid their respects to Rani Gaidinliu, North East India’s tiol freedom fighter, at Boro Haflong. Thereafter, they moved to Haflong Lake, where as part of Save our Lake (SOUL) campaign, they invested their time and effort in cleaning the popular lake.
