Cyclist Armstrong charged with car crash

Colorado, February 4: Former American cyclist Lance Armstrong stands accused of fleeing from the scene of an accident after crashing into two parked cars and would soon be produced in an Aspen court.

According to the local police, Armstrong fled the scene here in the ski resort of Aspen on December 29 before the officers arrived.

Armstrong’s girlfriend An Hansen later told the police she was behind the wheel that night, reports bbc.com on Wednesday.

Hansen had earlier claimed she was driving the car, when the accident happened, but police later confirmed after investigation that it was indeed the former cyclist who was driving.

The 43–year–old Armstrong, who was stripped of seven Tour de France titles for doping, has to appear in court on March 17.

He could be charged with a fine and imprisonment up to 90 days if convicted of the charges for fleeing the scene and over speeding in snowy conditions.

The charges were transferred to Armstrong on January 12. Hansen, however, won’t face charges. IANS
