Cyclone lashes Tirap, hits power supply

Itagar, March 27: A cyclonic storm accompanied by heavy rain lashed

Deomali in Tirap district last night causing massive damages to several

dwellings besides spping power supply to the additiol deputy

commissioner (ADC) headquarters.

Many trees were uprooted and several dwelling houses damaged. The

power supply lines have been spped and it may take some time to

restore electricity. However, there was no report of any casualty, an

official report informed here today.

Several roads in and around Deomali have been blocked by the uprooted

trees. The local administration and police have swung into action.

Agriculture Minister Wangki Lowang who is the local MLA has

instructed the ADC to assess the extent of damage caused by the storm

for onward submission to the government. He has also asked the power

department, forest department, PRI leaders and all stake holders to join

hands in restoring normalcy.

The minister has assured all possible help and support from his side.

The road between harkatia in Assam and Khonsa has been badly

affected. Many trees have fallen on the road. The Ramakrish Mission

School at rottam gar has also been hit hard by the storm, the report

added.
