Dalai Lama’s 84th Birthday Celebrated in Tawang, Arunachal Pradesh

Itanagar: People from all walks of life on Saturday celebrated the 84th birthday of Tibetan spiritual head the Dalai Lama (Gyalwa Tenzin Gyatso) at Ugyenling Gonpa in Tawang district of Arunachal Pradesh, his birth place. The devotees lighted lamps and incense sticks and prayed for the long and healthy life of the Dalai Lama.

The main function at Ugyenling Gonpa was organized by Tawang monastery administration, an official release informed. Humanity Group, an active NGO of Tawang, on the occasion organized a blood donation camp at Khandro Drowa Tsangmu District Hospital in collaboration with the district blood bank.

The NGO’s president Jampa Tsering and Blood bank officer Dr T Gyaltsen initiated the camp by appealing all the donors to come forward for the noble cause on this special day. There was overwhelming response from the youths informed Dr Gyaltsen. The environment and forest department of the district in collaboration with NGO Environmental Protection Society (EPS) planted more than 500 plant saplings in Phamla and Sange-ling Gonpa area. The monks from Sange-Ling gonpa and villagers of Phamla village also participated in plantation programme.

Reports have been received from Lungla and Mogto areas of conducting various social programmes on the day. Meanwhile, the Tibet Support Group of Arunachal Pradesh on Saturday extended its greetings to Tibetan spiritual leader the Dalai Lama on his 84th birth anniversary.

Its president Gicho Kabak in a statement said, “The Dalai Lama has worked tirelessly to promote human values and religious harmony in the world and for this we are all profoundly grateful.” The spiritual leader has committed himself to the promotion of religious harmony and has therefore met with religious leaders across different faith in particular. He has initiated a conference of the heads of all major religions in India which is an unprecedented development in India’s history, Kabak said.

The president added that Dalai Lama’s three main commitments include - promotion of human values, promotion of religious harmony and protection of Tibetan culture and environment. The Tibet support group of Arunachal Pradesh while praying for the long life of Dalai Lama hoped that he return to Tibet with honour during his life time.
