MANGALDAI: Taking a serious note on an allegation published in a section of media, Darrang Deputy Commissioner Ghanshyam Dass has ordered for an inquiry into the alleged anomalies in sanction of schemes under MGNREGA for the year 2018-19. Chief Executive Officer of Darrang Zila Parishad, Tez Prasad Bhusal will conduct the inquiry.

A section of newly-elected PRI members of the district has alleged that the office of the Project Director (PD), DRDA, Darrang had indulged in large-scale anomalies and corruption in the sanction process of a total of 250 MGNREGA schemes for the current fiscal year 2018-19 involving an amount of Rs 7.25 crore.

They alleged that in selection of most of the schemes, a secret monetary deal through some middlemen to the tune of around 20 per cent on the sanctioned amount for each of the scheme had taken place. Large number of schemes, which had earlier been approved under Gaon Panchayat Development and Planning (GPDP) following the decision of the Gram Sabhas, were allegedly removed from the list while other schemes of their choice with a bigger estimated cost were selected for sanction. There has been violation of official norms too, including lack of necessary technical sanction and administrative approval in the sanction process.

The anomalies came to light after the Project Director of DRDA, Darrang, Gulam Mostafa Muktadir recently distributed sanction letters to the PRI bodies under five different Development Blocks of the district.
