Darrang DC inspects restoration  of flood damage work

MANGALDAI, April 12: The Water Resources Department (WRD) in Mangaldai, in view of the ensuing monsoon, has started the immediate measures for restoration of flood damage of Noa di R/B embankment (closing of breaches at ch. 4850 meter under SDRF 2017-2018 in Rajghat area under Mangaldai Revenue Circle.

 The State government has already sanctioned an amount of Rs. 360 lakh. With this sanctioned amount, earth work will be carried out in a stretch of 6,679 metres while anti erosion works will cover 150 metre on the embankment. Darrang Deputy Commissioner Ashok Kumar Barman accompanied by Additiol Deputy Commissioner Bidyut Bikash Bhagawati on Thursday inspected the progress of work and asked the Executive Engineer of the Water Resources Department to expedite the pace of the work on war footing. He also suggested to block the rat holes in the entire stretch of the embankment so that the rising water during flood could not pave the way for the breach of the embankment. With the intention to protect the embankment, the Deputy Commissioner laid stress on the need for plantation of appropriated species of trees with deep roots outside the toe areas.

 During his inspection, on seeing the low-lying condition of the school premises of Rajghat High School following the construction of the RCC bridge on river Noa, the Deputy Commissioner asked the Water Resources Department to construct ring bundh for the protection of the school.

 Talking to the officials, Deputy Commissioner Ashok Kumar Barman reminded them not to compromise with the quality of works.
