Darrang Police arrests hardcore poacher with rifle

MANGALDAI: The Darrang Police has arrested a gang of anti-social elements including one notorious poacher, an eleven member gang of notorious bike lifters and an absconding hardcore professional criminal within last twenty four hours. Informing it to media persons in a brief press meet this afternoon, Superintendent of Police Amrit Bhuyan said that a team of Police led by Additional Superintendent of Police Ujjwal Pratim Barua arrested a hardcore poacher at Bagaribari Chapori adjacent to Orang National Park (ONP) on Thursday night while the armed gang of poachers were planning to fulfil their evil design for poaching and recovered a .303 rifle, eleven rounds of ammunition, one magazine and other objectionable items used in poaching from the possession of the poacher.

The poacher has been identified as Suresh Hembrom of village Ranipukhuri of Sarupothar area in Golaghat district. In yet another achievement, the Darrang Police successfully arrested a total of eleven notorious bike lifters from different places of the district and recovered five stolen motorcycles from their possession. The kingpin of the gang of bike lifters namely Bipul Bhattacharyya of village Niz Sarabari under Sipajhar Police Station has been involved in bike lifting cases in different places of the state long back.

On the other hand, on Friday afternoon a team of Police led by Officer in Charge of Kharupetia Police Station Sub Inspector Biraj Mohan Deka and Officer in Charge of Dhula Police Station Sub Inspector Abhijit Kakoty have arrested absconding hardcore criminal Asha Babu of Kharupetia area from his hideout. The arrested Asha Babu was the prime accused arrested in the sensational murder of senior lawyer and President of Mangaldai Chambers of Commerce Binoy Kumar Ghosh several years back and he was on bail. On Friday evening, one sophisticated revolver with 5 rounds of ammunition was recovered from Asha Babu’s residence.
