Darrangi folk artist receives award

TANGLA, Feb 7: Darrangi folk artist, writer, jourlist and a multifaceted persolity, Hemachandra Deka won the Nritashree award at the Global Theatre Festival- 2017 held at Cuttack in Odisha recently by Theatre Movement, Cuttack.

Deka, who hails from a sleepy village of Bairagipara under Darrang district, had great interest in field of drama, art and literature since his school days. Deka is a pioneering Darrangi folk artist of Khulia Bhaoria drama, Dhura geet and Bilip geet. He has ected in plays like Sangam, Mora Khutir Jiya Dhul , Dhorkhita Gabaru, Jibon Batat Tejor Dhunga, Tejor Sekura, Ek Asil Raja and  Pogola Manuh.

Deka performed on Mohokhunda dance along with showcasing traditiol folk drama, music and art at the Global Theatre Festival at Cuttack for which he was awarded with the recognition. At the award function Deka was conferred with the honour in presence of Justice DP Mahapatra, the patron, Dr. rayan Sahu, chairman and GB Das Mahapatra, general secretary of the theatre festival.
