Dibrugarh: Darul-ulum Madrassa, located in Mirzabagh, Amolapatty, became the first such institution in the town to introduce computer classes for its candidates on Monday.

Apart from such classes, the madrassa, which currently has 35 students, will also provide ITI courses. Inaugurating the event, MLA Prashanta Phukan considered the effort to be a change in the right direction. He added that the common perception about madrassa was that it was restricted to providing religious education. However, the decision taken by the founder of this madrassa, which harmonized with the Digital India Campaign, would benefit the entire society, he remarked.

Nevertheless, he pushed for the maintenance of quality and assured all possible help if needed to the institution. The chief guest for the event, Naser Sultan, who is the headmaster of Mancotta High School, emphasized providing specialized training as the government was promoting skill-development programmes in a big way. He also talked about certificate courses that would help candidates apply for jobs.

Associate Professor at Assam Medical College and Hospital, Dr. Sajid Ahmed, who was also present as the chief guest, said that such activities were essential as they would, other than developing the personality of the candidates, have a trickle-down effect on the society. The founder-cum-principal of the madrassa, Ainan Zubairi Nadvi, in his speech, considered the endeavor to be a humble start and appealed for public support for realizing the ultimate objective of transforming the society.
