Dating apps in India gaining more response and user base than before

India has moved a lot ahead from being a strictly orthodox country to the one with much open-minded thinking. Gone are those days when the marriages were being fixed by the parents without the bride and groom even getting a glimpse of each other. Time has changed and so has the thought-process of the new age Indian which can very well be perceived in the rapidly growing users of the dating apps. A study says, the number of users in dating apps has increased overwhelmingly and this indicates the changing mindset of the new generation.

Chief executive and co-founder of one of the dating apps TrulyMadly, Snehil Khanor says, “The acceptable age for marriage is being pushed by our generation. Plus, we are the first generation of India that is responsible for our own marriages, and not dependent on our parents who don’t want us to be dependent on them either."

The dating app records an exchange of 300,000-500,000 messages every day with 15,000 mutual matches. This is also true that the user base across these apps dominated by male users with only 20% being occupied by female users but this is also on the verge of change in keeping with the female population in the country.

OkCupid is another dating app with more than a million users in India and its chief marketing officer, Melissa Hobley says, “Since customizing the product for India in September 2018, we have witnessed an overwhelming response with active female users on the app tripling."

The dating apps are also being tailored in keeping with the likes and dislikes of the female population f the country in which they are asked relevant and true to life questions like whether one would like to continue working after marriage, what is their view on the MeToo movement and so on.

The new generation female and male want their relationship to be made on their choice rather than being compelled by their parents and this has been facilitated by the dating apps.
