DC Biswajeet Pegu Stands Resolute on City Bus Guidelines

GUWAHATI: Addressing the city bus issues, where drivers and handymen staged protests during the past two days, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Biswajeet Pegu informed that the new guidelines still stand firm. The DC warned that city bus drivers’ commercial license from Dimapur will not be accepted. “If all the papers are legitimate, then the drivers should have no qualms about pasting their photograph on the front window. Moreover, we have relieved the handymen from duty owing to numerous complaints. We set the guidelines with in-depth discussion in meetings with the Regional Transport Authority (RTA) for the safety of the citizens of Guwahati. If the city bus owners and drivers do not comply with the new rules, we will take necessary steps against them”, Biswajeet Pegu said. Although the city buses were on strike since the past two days with the ongoing dispute, services resumed from Thursday.
