DC issues orders to check import of items

Dibrugarh, April 6: With the festival of Rongali Bihu just a heartbeat away, District Magistrate (DM), Laya Madduri has issued orders to check the import of several items including gamosa, mekhela-chador and phanek to secure the domestic industry. In accordance with the orders, 7 Enforcement Squads consisting of circle officers have been formed and deployed in the 7 revenue circles of the district in order to keep a strict vigil on the matter. These Enforcement Squads, which have been constituted by Madduri following the mandate of the Handloom, Textiles and Sericulture Department of Assam, would launch drives in their respective areas and seize such imported items, if any, from the wholesale and retail outlets of gamosa and mekhela-chador located therein. These Enforcement Squads also include one officer each from the Police Department, Taxation Department, and Handloom, Textiles and Sericulture Department.
