DC takes stock of election preparedness in Gossaigaon

GOSSAIGAON, April 4: Thaneswar Malakar, Deputy Commissioner of Kokrajhar, visited Gossaigaon subdivision today and attended a meeting with high-ranking officers of the sub-divisiol administration including Manoj Barauah, SDO (C) Gossaigaon, police administration, different political parties and organizations in which he appriased them about the steps taken by the administration to ensure smooth and peaceful conduct of BTC poll in the district.

He expressed happiness over the fact that no violation of the model code of conduct had taken place till date. He appealed to all concerned to cooperate with the administration to ensure that no untoward incident takes place in the run-up to the BTC polls.

He further said that campaigning could be done from 8 am to 8 pm in the urban areas and in rural areas till 7 pm. He also gave instructions to the subdivision administration to ensure that liquor shops remained open only in between 2 pm to 8 pm. He further stated that the BTC elections had been taken seriously by both the Central and State governments, which was clearly evident by the fact that the Additiol Secretary, Union Home Ministry and Joint Secretary (in charge of NE), had recently visited Kokrajhar to take stock of the law-and-order situation.

In a separate meeting with high-ranking officers and police administration, he reviewed the functioning of the various cells engaged in the election process and urged all concerned to work sincerely to ensure smooth conduct of the polls. Later he inspected the strong rooms, materials distribution centres, dining hall for poll personnel and counting halls.
