JORHAT, May 23: Jorhat Deputy Commissioner’s driver Debashish Bora was arrested by Jorhat Police for man-handling an intern doctor of Jorhat Medical College and Hospital (JMCH, Dr Narayan Gupta, who was on duty in the OPD in JMCH, said police sources. Police said that the driver of the Deputy Commissioner allegedly thrashed an intern doctor for behaving rudely with Jorhat DC Narayan Konwar who had taken his cousin, a higher secondary final year student, to the JMCH OPD following extensive bleeding through her nose. But the intern doctor, identified as Dr Narayan Gupta, behaved very rudely with the DC and asked him to collect a registration coupon. The DC’s cousin was suffering from massive nose bleeding so he rushed to the attending doctor’s room but the doctor refused to hear his request even though Narayan Konwar introduced himself as the Deputy Commissioner of Jorhat and requested that his cousin should be given first aid. Following this, the DC’s driver allegedly manhandled the junior doctor for his rude behaviour. After this, there was uproar among the junior doctors on duty. Later the driver surrendered in JMCH police outpost and was arrested. Following the situation, a meeting was held by the JMCH authority in presence of MP Kamakhya Prasad Tasa at the JMCH premises on Tuesday evening.
