DD to telecast NE success stories

By our Staff Reporter
GUWAHATI, June 17: Doordarhsan is going to telecast the success stories of persolities from the Northeast. The credit for this goes to the Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) that has taken an initiative for such an endeavour. It is a well known fact that people from the Northeast who scripted success stories in various fields are less known elsewhere in the country, and even in the region. Despite their immense contribution to the country and the mankind, such people, as often as not, sink into oblivion. Taking this reality into consideration, the MHA has taken an initiative to telecast films or serials on the life, struggle and success stories of people from Assam and the Northeast in Doordarhan and other TV channels. One of the prime reasons behind such an initiative is that such successful people from the region are little known in rest of India. Besides this, the divide between the Northeast and rest of India needs to be bridged.  The contribution of people of the Northeast, right from the days of the Struggle for Independence of India, is not negligible. For example, the relentless effort for bringing about awareness on birth control among the religious minorities in Assam by Dr. Ilias Ali has no parallel elsewhere in India. A few of those whose life, struggle and success stories are set to be telecast are Olympian Deepa Karmakar of Tripura and Mary Kom of Manipur.
