Death anniversary of Maniram Dewan and Benudhar Sarma to be observed

GAURISAGAR, February 15 : The death anniversary of Maniram Dewan, the first Assamese tea cultivator and noted historian, litterateur and former president of Axam Xahitya Xabha, Benudhar Sarmah and the annual conference of Gaurajyoti Moi Parijat will be observed at Charing Duarah Par, the birth place of Maniram Dewan, with a two-day long programme under the aegis of Gaurajyoti Moi Parijat on February 26 and February 27.

On the first day, social worker Achyut Duarah will hoist the flag to mark the beginning of the programme followed by smriti tarpan by Biswa Kanta Baruah, social worker. Thereafter the plantation programme will be done by Madan Chandra Duarah, Lakshan Chandra Daurah and Puneswar Duarah. A cultural procession will be taken out throughout the locality. Dilip Kumar Gogoi, BDO Gaurisagar Development Block will flag it off. A spot essay competition will be held on the topic ‘The role of Maniram Dewan and Benudhar Sarmah in the Indian freedom movement’. Later a symposium will be held on the topic ‘The contribution of Maniram Dewan and Benudhar Sarmah towards the social life of Assam’.

Promode Duarah, Principal, Gha Kanta Borah, College, Tamulichiga will iugurate it while noted educationist and Principal, Spiritual College, Aauniati Xatra complex, Kaliapani Teok, Tuwaram Khanikar will conduct it while Dr. Dambarudhar th, Professor and Head of the Department of History in Anirudhadev Chair, Dibrugrah University and Dr Mamoni Borah Khargharia, Associate Professor and Head, Department of Assamese, Swahid Maniram Dewan (SMD) College, Charing will grace the symposium as appointed speakers. In the symposium a book titled Phansi Kathar pora Moi Moniram Dewane Koisu written by Saurav Jyoti Duarah will be unveiled by Dr Dambarudhar th.

In the evening noted educationist Kamala Kanta Duarah memorial cultural function will be held. Joyjyoti Gogoi, noted jourlist of Sivasagar will iugurate it. On the concluding day, a drawing competition will be held. Sachi Duarah, retired Headmaster of Hafaluting High School will unveil the wall magazine. The open session of Gaurajyoti Moi Parijat will be held under the chairmanship of Rishav Baruah, student of Moi Parijat. Bitu Duarah, president of Moi Parijat will iugurate the open session. The students of Gaurajyoti Moi Parijat like Ankur Duarah, Prasurjya Dutta, Kavyashree Duarah, Abish Duarah, Dikshita Baruah and yan Jyoti Bhuyan will grace the open session as appointed speakers while Dipak Chandra Borah, Associated Professor, Department of Philosophy, SMD College, Charing will attend as a distinguished guest.
