Death toll in Digboi road mishap rises to 7

DIGBOI, April 25: The death toll in the road mishap on NH 38 near Lions Club in Digboi on Friday has increased to seven after Dibyajyoti Borgohain of Pengaree Tokopather succumbed to his injuries on Saturday morning in Dibrugarh.

Dibyajyoti Borgohain was a graduate from Digboi College and good dhulia. He left home on Thursday evening with his Bihu troupe to perform at Kakopather.

The last rites of the deceased, including Ani Gogoi (17) of Pengaree Lalmati village, Dipika Moran (17) of Brahmajan Pengree, Akash Protim Sharma (19) of Brahmajan Pengaree, Sanjib Chakhap (30) of Inthem Pengaree,  Biswajit Chetia (24) of No.2 Tokopather of Pengaree and Hemanta Das (19) of Udaipur in Philobari were carried out in their respective areas. The last rites of Buragohain were also performed.

The injured persons who sustained multiple injuries and are being treated at Dibrugarh AMCH  were identified as Gopal Gogoi (20) of Lalmati Pengaree, Sanjib Handique (20) of Kathalguri in Bordumsa, Punya Kanta Saikia (19) of Inthem gapather in Pengaree, Dipankar Moran (18) of Pengaree Brahmajan, Brajakumar Moran (24) of Tarani Pengaree, Pallab Saikia (19) of Pengaree Charali, Bikash Das (23), Bikash Baruah (21), both from Philobari, Kausik Bordoloi (18) of  Brahmajan in Pengaree, Tanka Phukon (20) of Mugongpather in pengaree, Nirmal Gogoi (18) of Brahmajan Pengaree, Hemanta Baruah (27) of No.2 Tokopather of Pengaree, Dhon Daimary (19) of Makum Killa in Margherita and Prasanta Gogoi (20) of gapather in Pengaree.

Meanwhile, various associations and organizations have condoled the death of the people in the accident.

A meeting was held at Digboi Sahitya Sewa Samity on Saturday, organized by Bihu Suraksha Samity under the president ship of Jaikanta Gondhiya, the central president of the Samity. Several decisions were taken regarding release of souvenir, generating fund to aid the injured and urging the Chief Minister to instruct all Bihu committees across the State to end Bihu functions by midnight.
