Decision to conduct NEET online and twice a year withdrawn

New Delhi: The HRD Ministry led by Prakash Javdekar has withdrawn its decision to conduct the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) twice a year and in online mode from 2019.

NEET will now be held in pen-and-paper mode.

According to reports, the HRD Ministry had expressed affirmation to changes in the exam, influenced by the Health Ministry which is of the notion that an online test would be a bias against students hailing from rural areas and the economically weaker section of the society.

The NEET which is a major entrance examination for entry into the reputed medical colleges of the country. For 2019 session, the registration process will begin from November 1 this year and the examination has been scheduled for May 5.

HRD Minister Javdekar had earlier announced that a new body NTA has been formed which will organize the national level entrance exams- NET, NEET, and JEE-MAINS, earlier conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE).
