Rio de Janeiro, March 30 : Brazil’s 1994 football World Cup-winning coach Carlos Alberto Parreira said Sunday that defence is the key to the Selecao’s success under new coach Dunga. Brazil’s 1-0 victory over Chile in London on Sunday was the team’s eighth straight win since Dunga took over as coach from Luiz Felipe Scolari after last year’s World Cup. “It’s a very concrete concept. When Brazil learns to play without the ball, the team is almost unbeatable,” Parreira said on Sunday. “That’s the challenge of every Brazil coach.”

“Dunga is implementing the concept with a lot of success. It’s the affirmation of something that has always been successful for World Cup-winning teams. Brazil didn’t play marvelously against Chile but the team defended and won the match with one attacking move.”

Sunday’s result followed the Selecao’s 3-1 defeat of France in Paris on Friday.

Brazil’s next matches are against Mexico and Honduras in June. The fixtures will be the last chance for Dunga’s team to fine-tune their preparations before the Copa America, to be played in Chile from June 11 to July 4. IANS
