GUWAHATI, May 30: The Sadou Asom Nibanuwa Parishad (SANP) has appealed to the newly formed government at Dispur to bring corrupt agriculture officials, including Director Kabindra Barkakati, and former Agriculture Minister Nilomani Sen Deka to the book and blacklist the corrupt contractors.
In a statement issued to the press today, SANP demanded an inquiry into the corrupt practices that took place during the tenure of Deka as the Agriculture Minister. Of late, another scam amounting to Rs 80-crore on the purchase of fertilizers, seeds and pesticides came to light. The scam has created ripples in the State. “Even as there is change of guards at Dispur, a large number of corrupt officials are still in the department. There is every reason to believe that with the blessing of such corrupt officials in the department, the corrupt contractors will continue their corrupt practices. This is the reason why there should be high-level inquiries into the corrupt practices in the department,” the statement said.
