Demand for measures to stop gambling

KALAIGAON, April 19: Kalaigaon Anchalik Committee of All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) has demanded to stop gambling during the Doul Mahotsav in Kalaigaon area. A memorandum was submitted to the Circle Officer of Kalaigaon revenue circle. In the memorandum it was stated that anti-social activities like jhandi-mundi were organized during the Doul Mahotsav since the past few years.  Kalaigaon AASU also stated that the Doul festival had been organized in Kalaigaon area along with Darrang and Udalguri districts since ancient times. But these anti-social activities during the festival in the Assamese month of Bohag were polluting the minds of the young generation as well as disturbing the social environment in the area.
