Demand for new district

Rangia, February 17: The North Kamrup District Demand committee staged a dhar at Rangia SDO civil office on Wednesday demanding creation of North Kamrup district with Rangia as headquarter. Hundreds of people from all walks of life took part in the protest. The committee also submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister through the SDO (civil) in support of their demand. Anta Deka, former MLA, Khagen Singh Lahkar, Arup Lahkar, Deben Sarma, rendra Sarma, Toufikar Rahman, Krish Lahkar and other leading citizens spoke on the creation of new North Kamrup district. The committee would launch massive agitation unless the State Government created the new district before Assembly polls.
