Demand for revocation of transfer order

SHILLONG, May 7: Residents of West Khasi Hills District, accompanied by a few NGOs, on Monday, requested the Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma to revoke the transfer of District Commissioner Arun Kumar Kembhavi. The government has issued a transfer order to the DC of West Khasi Hills district on April 28. Speaking to reporters after the meeting with the Chief Minister, a resident of the district Wanphailang Dkhar said, “We oppose this transfer as it does not meet the principles of transparency. The frequent and arbitrary transfers of officers before the completion of a reasonable tenure on any post have always been considered a major reason for the declining standards of administration.” He, however, said that the Chief Minister, during their discussion, was unable to give any assurance to them on this issue but said that the matter would be examined. When asked, Dkhar said, “We don’t want the DC to be transferred because he had been in service in the district for only 14 months and within this short span of time he has brought countless developmental schemes in the district.”
