Demand for withdrawal of decision

GOLAGHAT, May 9: The United Indigenous Council, Assam staged protest near the Deputy Commissioner’s office on Wednesday demanding withdrawal of the lease contract of historical monuments of Assam. In a press statement, the president and secretary of the district committee, Pranab Phukan and Dipjyoti Singha said that the historic monuments were the signs of greatness of the Ahom kingdom and a source of pride for the Assamese people. They said that the government was planning to hand over the maintenance of Kaziranga National Park, Rang Ghar, Kareng Ghar and Shiva Dol to private parties under the ‘Adopt a Heritage’ scheme, which was not at all acceptable. The United Indigenous Council, Assam strongly demanded that this proposal should be dropped.
