Demand to repair river embankment

KALAIGAON, April 27: The people of Kalaigaon have demanded immediate repair of the damaged embankment of Noa river. This embankment was ravaged by floods on August 14, 2014.

People said that the Noa overflowed due to incessant rain last year and flooded five villages, Rupatal, Bhehguri, Sagunbahi, Balipara and Gerua under Kalaigaon revenue circle. The embankment had also been ravaged by floods at that time. Rupatal LP School in Rupatal was also washed away.

Thousands of bighas of paddy field were destroyed and nine houses were washed away. The flood victims alleged that the district administration had given them no assistance. They said that more than any other assistance, they want the river embankment to be repaired soon.

Meanwhile, MP Ramen Deka, MLA Mukundaram Chaudhury and some department officials visited the affected areas but the people alleged that no one took necessary steps to get the embankment repaired. They said that unless the embankment was repaired soon, this year too they might lose property due to floods.
