TINSUKIA, September 7: The Tinsukia District Jourlists Association (TDJA) demanded that Tinsukia Jn railway station (old railway station) situated in the heart of the town, which was creating extreme traffic congestion, be shifted to Bahadur Chariali along with diversion of railway track from Panitola to Dangori parallel to NH-37, stated a memorandum submitted to Rajen Gohain, Union Minister of State (Independent charge) Railways, during his visit to Tinsukia on Wednesday.
The memorandum pointed out that the historic Dibru-Sadiya Railways which was devastated during the 1950 earthquake should be restored from Dangori to Saikhowa Ghat. In view of thousands of pilgrims visiting Parusuram Kund in Lohit district of Aruchal Pradesh annually from different parts of the country, the railways should prepare a project on priority basis connecting Makum with Parusuram Kund, the memorandum added. Besides demanding long distance trains from Makum to Kerala, Gujarat and Jammu and Kashmir, the TDJA demanded an over bridge at the junction of NH 37 and NH 38 and railway travel concession to the extent of 50 per cent to all press correspondents.
