SIVASAGAR, April 27: Residents, civil societies and farmers have criticized the Asomiya Yuva Mancha’s demand to shift the weekly Sunday market from Darbar Road Tiniali. They expressed shock at the organization’s demand as this shifting will deprive local farmers and small traders of their source of livelihood. In a press release signed by Dr Manirul Huda, Wazidur Rohman, Rinku Ali and others, it was stated, “The weekly market at the Darbar Road is the only source of income for many local unemployed youths, farmers and small traders. If this market is shifted, it would affect hundreds of poor whose business is solely linked to this market.” They said, “A section of selfish persons for their persol gains has been trying to remove this market. Traffic problems caused by the weekly market cannot be the only reason for shifting or removing the market from here. If it is the reason, then how has the Sunday weekly market at Rajmai on NH-37 been running since long?” The Sivasagar District Committee of Asomiya Yuva Mancha had submitted a memorandum to the Sibsagar Municipal Board on April 23 demanding shifting of the weekly market from Darbar Road Tiniali.
