Demand to upgrade AMCH into AIIMS

From a Correspondent

Dibrugarh, Feb 18: Pressing demands are being made by various parties and organizations of the district  for upgrading Assam Medical College and Hospital (AMCH) into All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS).

In this regard, continuous and collective efforts are being made by parties and organizations to develop AMCH into a replica of AIIMS with all state-of-the-art modern day facilities.

Moreover, on various occasions, memoranda were also submitted to the Prime Minister of India and the Chief Minister of Assam by people of Dibrugarh along with the members of different parties and organizations to upgrade AMCH  into All India Ayurvigyan Medical Institution.

Dibrugarh being the home district of Chief Minister Sarbanda Sonowal, the residents of the district off late have been making a unified approach towards developing AMCH into a technologically advanced medical institution.

The residents of the district have expressed their utter resentment towards AMCH being  given a step-motherly  treatment even when it fulfills the required criteria of the special committee report. As per the report, it is mandatory to have an airport and railway station nearby the  proposed location for establishment of AIIMS. Thus, as Mohanbari Airport is just 11 km away and Banipur Railway Station is at a distance of 5 km,  and vast acres of  land lying vacant within the AMCH campus , the call for AMCH being upgraded to AIIMS is being made by the people of the district. They have called upon Chief Minister Sarbanda Sonowal, Dibrugarh MP  Rameswar Teli and the MLAs of both Dibrugarh and Tinsukia districts for taking up the matter for its due implementation.
