Departments irk MLAs with incomplete replies

BY OUR STAFF REPORTER

GUWAHATI, Feb 14:  A section of State government departments have irked legislators no end in the ongoing budget session by providing incomplete information in written replies to queries raised in the House. “It seems the departments concerned are not serious in replying to questions being asked by members. Answers to many questions in the current session were incomplete,” complained an MLA on condition of anonymity.

On Monday, replying to a question by MLA Chakradhar Gogoi on land revenue collection and land requisitioned under Ceiling Act, the Revenue minister provided information regarding land of 18 districts, which is just over half of the 35 districts of the State.

In its written reply, the Revenue department could not provide information regarding collection of revenue and land requisitioned in the remaining 17 districts of the State.

Similarly, on Monday, AGP MLA Utpal Dutta raised a question on cases registered against the IPS officers in the State but the Home department failed to furnish information in its written reply. The Home department only stated that it is still collecting information.
