Deputy Commissioner Sonal Swaroop Orders Closure of BCT Road in Arunachal Pradesh

Itanagar: Reports of landslides triggered by incessant rain since Sunday have been reported from various circles of West Kameng district in Arunachal Pradesh, especially along the BCT (Balipara-Charduar-Tawang) road and OKSRT (Orang-Kalaktang-Shergaon-Rupa-Tenga) road respectively, leaving hundreds of vehicles including passenger vehicles and Army convoy stranded.

The district administration has raised serious concern over the preparedness level of the BRTF, especially during the monsoon season to tackle road blockades in various pockets of the district and termed it “questionable”.

Deputy Commissioner Sonal Swaroop has ordered closure of the BCT road and banned entry of vehicles from Assam side in Bhalukpong and Tenga side in the district. Directives have also been passed on to the administrative officers to issue prohibitory orders to bar people from venturing into rivers and nallahs, an official release informed here on Tuesday.

The DC also directed ADC Singchung and ADC Rupa to evacuate people from the flash flood areas and ensure food, shelter and drinking water on priority. He also directed for putting up of adequate numbers of machines and manpower including standby at all the vulnerable points both in the BCT and the OKSRT roads so that flow of the essential commodities, movement of the public and army convoys are not hampered.

At around two in Sunday afternoon, the RCC culvert bridge at Kaspi under Singchung administrative sub-division in the district was washed out. The residential school building (boys’ hostel) and four other SPT buildings in the periphery was also damaged. A restaurant located nearby was washed out whereas; few vehicles parked alongside were badly damaged. In the midst of all, one Kanchi Mosbu, a 23 years old lady has been reported missing.

Also, a stretch of road connecting Nag Mandir and Jamiri administrative center has been washed out.

Meanwhile, the Singchung administration and police are engaged in evacuating the people of Hemoibung village located on the banks of river Zding-kho.

A kuccha dwelling house was damaged Monday morning at Sera village near Bomdila by the landslide, triggered by incessant rain. Three lives narrowly escaped the misfortune. The family was shifted to a safer location, the release added.
