Designer Sanjukta conferred with Dada Saheb Phalke Excellence Awards

GUWAHATI, April 22: Assamese Designer Sanjukta Dutta was conferred with the prestigious Dada Saheb Phalke Excellence Awards 2018 in best fashion designer of the year category in Mumbai on Saturday, a press release stated. She is one of the first designers to be felicitated with this honor, as a part of the ‘She Can Fly” initiative of Smile Foundation, the charity partner for Dadasaheb Phalke Excellence Awards 2018. Designer Sanjukta Dutta is a name synonymous with mekhala chador and revival of handloom in Assam, while giving a means of livelihood to Assamese artisans. Today Dutta supports over a hundred artisans families, covering all aspects of their life such as education, medical and lodging. She also gives them wages that are above the industry average. “I am very happy doing what I do and am very thankful for being acknowledged for my work,” she shared.
