DG AR Lt Gen Chauhan retires from service

Shillong, March 31: Lt Gen Shokin Chauhan AVSM, YSM, SM, VSM, after a successful stint of 39 glorious years in the Indian Armed Forces retired today from the services as the DG AR. An alumnus of NDA, DSSC & the prestigious tiol Defence College, he was commissioned into the 11 Gorkha Rifles in December 1979. A highly decorated officer, among other successful appointments in his career, he also had the unique distinction of handling media relations for the Army in its public information unit. He took over as the 19th Director General of Assam Rifles on 12th Dec, 2016. Gen Chauhan believed that the Assam Rifles is an elite Force assigned with the dual task of border guarding along the Intertiol Indo-Myanmar Border and tackling interl insurgency. He had complete faith in the efficiency of his Force that has a rich history of 183 years of presence in the Northeast of India. His contribution towards bringing to light, the role of Assam Rifles in protecting the Indian Democracy, through multiple exposure on various social media platforms have helped the rest of India to know about the impactful existence of the Force. His vision to let the Indians learn about the ethos of the Force has been fruitful. He leaves behind a legacy that will be a challenge for the future.
