Dhemaji Civil Hospital faces shortage of doctors

DHEMAJI, Jan 15: Dhemaji Civil Hospital is grappling with shortage of specialized doctors and necessary equipments. Though it is an important hospital where patients from distant areas, including the patients of Aruchal Pradesh, come for treatment, yet Dhemaji Civil Hospital is in a sorry state due to lack of minimum required number of doctors and medical equipments. There is no full-fledged Hospital Superintendent. Besides, the people of Dhemaji have also demanded the appointment of two medicine specialists, one skin specialist, one neuro surgeon, two surgeons, two pediatricians and a radiologist.  There is no facility for CT-scan. The Assam Jatiatabadi Yuba Chatra Parishad (AJYCP) has alleged that some doctors openly demand money from the patients and also ask the patients to visit their private chambers for advice and treatment. It was also alleged that the doctors tell the patients that as the hospital does not have proper facilities or medicines, they should visit the private chambers of the doctors instead of the hospital. The AJYCP also alleged that the doctors never come to the hospital on time and the behavior of some doctors with patients is also not cordial. The food provided to the patients is also not up-to-the mark. The organization has already taken up the matter with the State Health Minister for taking necessary steps for uplift of the hospital.
