DHSK College to introduce PG courses in English

Dibrugarh, May 5: The premier institution of higher education in Upper Assam as well as in the Northeast, Dibrugarh Hanuman Bux Surujmall Kanoi College (DHSK College) will add another feather to its cap from the next session of 2016-17 by introducing postgraduate classes in English. The Dibrugarh University authority has already agreed to the proposal and has issued license on it.
The college set up in 1945 by stalwarts like Aswani Charan Chowdhury, MLA, Faiznur Ali, Dr Jogiraj Basu, Lokeswar Baruah and Dr Lakhi Prasad Dutta, initially at Jorge Institution (Bagmibar Nilmoni Phukan High School) and later it was shifted to the present site, a garbage dumping ground of Dibrugarh Municipal Board which was doted to the college authority by then chairman of the board, Azizur Rahman.
Seventy years of its journey, the college has witnessed many ups and down and reached its present stage and now has been able to distinguish itself as one of the distinguished colleges in the State.
This was the third college established in the State before Independence and first college of undivided Lakhimpur district.
The news of permission to start PG classes from next academic session by Dibrugarh University has made the environment festive. Speaking on this to The Sentinel over phone, the Principal Dr Sashikanta Saikia expressed his joyous feeling and reiterated his commitment for the development of this premier institute of repute. He promised to raise the quality of this institution and to put in effort to make it number one in the entire State.
