Dhubri bandh passes off peacefully

DHUBRI, April 9: The 12-hour  Dhubri district bandh called by Dhubri Zila Unyan Parishad led by Congress leader and former minister Mohibul Houqe was  passed off peacefully today.

The bandh was called against the recent death of 14 labourers whose bodies were found recovered  in Meghalaya on Sunday.

The parishad has demanded to conduct a tiol level enquiry either by CBI or NIA against the ‘brutal killing’ of 14 innocent labour of Dhubri district. The organization has also sought  compensation  of Rs 10 lakh to each of the  victim’s family  as well as to ensure security of the people of Assam who are working in other States.

During the bandh, the transport system was hit across the district and the vehicles were totally off from the tiol Highway (NH) 31.

Meanwhile, one person mely Sofiq Miya alias Raju, supporter of  Dhubri Zila Unyan Parishad  was arrested by police in connection with the tiol Highway blocked at Matiyabhog area under Gauripur police station.

However, the chief advisor of Dhubri Zila  Unyyan Parishad Mohibul Hoqe, who is also the Chairman of AMTRON said that the arrested  person is not a member of the parishad.

Another organization—Dhubri Zila Mistri Sramik Union took out a protest rally in which more than 300 supporters were participated.

The Union has also submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister through the Deputy Commissioner, Dhubri demanding action against the culprit involved in the killing of labuorer in Meghalaya.
