Dhubri: Move to withdraw technology and digital services training resented

DHUBRI: Resentment prevails among the people and employees as well against the move to withdraw the training of State Government employees and personnel from Assam on Information Technology and Digital Services (including Digital Payment and GST) from Dhubri based College of Advanced Technical Studies. The training programme being run by the National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology (NIELIT), Government of India, is sponsored by the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (MDoNER).

This move by NIELIT to withdraw the training centre from Dhubri has been widely resented in the district at the time when the Central Government is providing all facilities and setting up infrastructure in the district for being one of the 117 backward districts, termed as aspirational districts, in the country. A source of the Dhubri district administration informed that the above programme started in Dhubri on July 27, 2018 and was supposed to be continued up to December, 2018. During this period a total of 160 officials were supposed to avail the benefit of this training at Dhubri.

Accordingly, a MoU was signed between NIELIT, Guwahati and College of Advanced Technical Studies, Dhubri after due inspection by NIELIT about the infrastructure available, the source further informed. But surprisingly and suddenly (after completion of the 4th batch), College of Advanced Technical Studies was communicated by NIELIT that the ongoing programme would be withdrawn from Dhubri due to economic unviability, about which the College of Advanced Technical Studies has got no role to play as per the MoU.

The move of NIELIT is strongly resented as it might be a pre-planned intention to withdraw all sort of training and examination centres from Dhubri and if the centre is withdrawn, it will create inconvenience for the employees of the district as they will have to go to other districts for this training on Information Technology and Digital Services, the source added.
